ABATEGApatchSeasons Greetings from the Legislative Desk of ABATE of Georgia

Well it’s that time of year again; time to winterize our motorcycles…..rotf just kidding! Just because winter is fast approaching does not mean Georgia motorcyclists are putting their machines away till Spring, oh no quite contraire it simply means you will see more of us at the local toy stores! Toy Runs are such a great celebration of the Spirit of Christmas. Even crusty old bikers that get a bad rap from the soccer moms all year get a break for their kindness as Christmas nears. I hope the Holidays bring each of you great joy this year though I know all of us have probably lost someone near and dear to us this year. Death comes all too quickly for some of our closest friends and their passing leaves a huge hole in our lives.  I offer condolences and a prayer for each of you that have lost a friend, brother, sister, father or mother this year and ask that you hug someone close to you and let them know how much you care. We all care. We all love. We all lose something that can’t be replaced.

Part of what ABATE does is fight to protect our riders and punish those that harm them. ABATE has made some great strides towards achieving these goals and we want you to join us in the fight. Our legislative agenda is very aggressive this year and we have had positive feedback from the Governor and several lawmakers.  Take a look at what we are fighting for and if you have the spirit to join us please come to Atlanta on January 21, 2015 and meet us under the Gold Dome of the Capitol.

ABATE of Georgia Legislative Agenda:

  • Stop profiling law-abiding citizens Repeal of Georgia’s handlebar law
  • Let a motorcyclist live – Teach the MSF Intersection Kit in Driver Education Programs
  • Let a motorcyclist get home – Pass the Red Light Bill
  • Kill a motorcyclist, go to jail – increase penalties for killing a motorcyclist
  • Let a motorcyclist use the entire road – examine lane filtering and implement where possible
  • Allow Adults to make their own decision – protective gear is a choice that does not need mandates
  • End State and Federal funding of motorcycle only checkpoints.

Our lobby day is an open invitation to every Georgia motorcyclist to meet ABATE and your legislators. Enjoy a bowl of chili and share your thoughts with your lawmakers. We will have material to share with you promoting motorcyclists rights and help you to identify and connect with your Representative and Senator. Our tables will be set up in the Rotunda from 10:00am to 3:00pm January 21, 2015. Organize a group ride from your part of the State and plan on a fun day with us.  Give me a call to let me know how many parking spaces and bowls of chili to reserve!

Happy Holidays!

Brad Coulston Legislative Director ABATE of Georgia (706) 833-5539

ABATE of Georgia is composed of motorcyclists from all areas of the state, from all walks of life, and who ride all makes of bikes. ABATE is not a club, it is a politically active organization working on motorcyclist’s rights. We are affiliated with national rights groups like the American Motorcyclist Association (AMA), the Motorcycle Riders Foundation (MRF) and the National Coalition of Motorcyclists (NCOM).

Our main focus is to keep motorcycle legislation in its proper perspective. Many restrictive laws are enacted by uninformed legislators. ABATE’s goal is to keep our lawmakers informed of our members collective position on Motorcycle related legislation. Preventing unfair legislation from becoming law is easier than fighting to get the law repealed.

Rider education and public awareness of motorcyclists are goals of ABATE.
We are not against the wearing of helmets, and we encourage all riders to ride safely.

ABATE of Georgia, Inc. is a Motorcyclist Rights Organization.
On this site are links to the inner workings of ABATE of Georgia,
its MissionMembership InformationFree Newsletter and a host of other resources that any motorcyclist can use to Monitor Current Legislation related to motorcycling.

We hope you will use this site to become an active, more effective freedom fighter.
ABATE of Georgia is a Team effort – we welcome all riders, all brands.
