Red Dirt Mountain, winners of the Battle of the Bands 2016

Red Dirt Mountain is a band that plays all original music like you’ve never heard it played before. The best way to describe Red Dirt Mountain is they are all blue collar working class boys from the southside of Atanta, Georgia. “You aint heard nothing like this..we will bring the show when we come and you will be entertained!!! Playing southern rock is what we do…”pbg_battle_of_the_bands_finals-2

For the last two years, in October Garage71 Radio launches the search for Battle of the Bands for Porterdale Bar and Grill, located at the crossroads in Porterdale, Georgia. Garage71 runs through the potentials and comes up with a list of the top 12 bands to compete for cash prize, Miller High Life items, a feature in Grease Inc. magazine and to be recognized as an up and coming band in the Atlanta market.

The finals this year took place on Saturday, December 3rd at Porterdale Bar and Grill. Our guest judges were owner and CEO of Garage71, Brian L Whitcomb, aka “Big Boy”, the World Famous Captain Steele and Ms. Madam Maybelle. The event was hosted by Garage71’s Erin RadioFox Watson, who also hosts a local’s only show every Tuesday night on Garage71. RadioFox has been both an influencer in the local scene as well as a solid performer for years. The judges scored the bands on originality, performance, skills, stage presence and crowd participation.pbg_battle_of_the_bands_finals-4

The final round included Soultrap, the SideBurners, and Red Dirt Mountain. Soultrap is an American Metal band from the Atlanta, GA area. While the group was formed in 2014, the member lineup was completed in 2015 and today consists of Guitarist Jeffrey “Haze” Hays, Drummer Tyler Martin, Vocalist Aaron Pulce, and Bassist Jayson Jarrell. Unrelenting advertisement through performances, merchandise, social media, and street-team promotion have gained the band a sizable and steadily-growing following since their inception into the Atlanta Metal scene.Soultrap is characterized by their diverse musical style of songs which ranges from the sympathetic acoustic-type to aggressive hard-hitting metal and everything in between. The SideBurners are a North Atlanta Psychobilly Band consisting of upbeat Rock n Roll with a heavier edge. Frontman, Brent Cashman has been a long insider to the Atlanta music scene and grew up picking his Gretsch to a much heavier beat.

Red Dirt Mountain, after some internal medical scares, and some serious regrouping, took the win by near margins. “Everyone performed their best”, CEO of Garage71 Radio, Brian L Whitcomb. “We are Red Dirt Mountain, open slide tunings with a little heavy thrown in. We come from the Southside out of a garage where blood and sweat is the norm. Won’t hear anything like us with our loud twang and even some heavier stuff thrown in. We are proud to bring the southern sound to ya and will blow your hair back live. Come get some dirt on ya!!!!!!” says Slim, bassist for RDM.
